Three-Year Training Programme
Jazzart Dance Theatre’s Three-Year Dance Training Programme provides youth with the opportunity to receive comprehensive training in contemporary dance, equipping them to establish successful careers in the field.
Adhering to a social justice framework, Jazzart actively recruits a diverse group of trainees including youth from disadvantaged communities, who may otherwise lack access to the performing arts as a viable career path.
The programme is full-time, and a team of highly experienced teachers and choreographers provide the trainees with a holistic skills development programme in a creative and safe environment. The training curriculum is underpinned by the Jazzart technique, fostering skills in improvisation, contact improvisation, release technique, chair, floor, and rhythm work.
Beyond technical dance proficiency, the programme emphasises the development of professionalism, punctuality, commitment, and effective communication. Training extends beyond the studio, incorporating exposure through performances at community venues, theatres and festivals.
The principles guiding the training process are rooted in social cohesion, inclusive spaces, and transformative learning. This approach aims to equip trainees with the necessary skills to become cultural ambassadors, harnessing the power of dance for positive impact.
The training programme selection is conducted through a rigorous three-day audition process. Trainees are expected to demonstrate dedication, a willingness to learn, respect for their peers and instructors, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to representing the Jazzart through their artistry and activities. Additionally, they must possess the potential to excel as performers and embody the values of discipline, bold creativity, and social responsibility.
