Dance Training Manager
50-year-old Jazzart Dance Theatre is acknowledged as the oldest South Africa’s contemporary dance theatre company that has, and continues, to exert a powerful influence on the development of dance in South Africa. The Jazzart methodology ensures that strong technique is matched with a uniquely South African dance philosophy that is rooted in the diversity of the culture and traditions of our country.
The company is looking to employ a Dance Training Manager (Contemporary Dance) to manage the three-year training programme in accordance with the approved curriculum, budget, timelines and quality standards.
1. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
a. In consultation with the Artistic Director, review and implement the three-year training programme curriculum based on the Jazzart philosophy and technique.
b. As custodian of the Training programme, source additional guest teachers to meet the programme deliverables.
c. As Resident Teacher, manage the trainee’s daily training activities and track their progress through the assessment process.
d. Rehearse repertoire works for productions and events when required.
e. Keep up to date with new trends through research and regular dialogue with industry professionals.
2. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
a. 5 years professional dance experience in the performing arts industry.
b. A teaching qualification or 5 years of experience as a training specialist or similar role in designing and implementing training programmes and workshops.
c. Ability to lead and manage the full three-year training programme cycle.
d. Managerial skills and experience in working with young adults.
e. Good knowledge of talent management.
f. Excellent decision making, organisational and time-management skills.
g. Great interpersonal and communication skills.
h. Choreographic skills will be advantageous.
